Fuyu is a semi-dwarf variety of Persimmon, well suited to growing in small backyards and can be kept to 2m with pruning. The fruit is large and flat (squat shape like a tomato), orange-red in colour with a sweet, mild flavour loaded with Vitamin A and C, potassium, fiber, and amino acids..
Fuyu is known as a non-astringent persimmon, so can be eaten when still hard, and is also delicious when very soft.
Seedless when grown on their own however if cross pollinating with another variety they can have seeds in the flesh.
Persimmons are highly ornamental and have beautiful autumn foliage. Despite the elegant appearance and high level of fruit production, the maintenance for Fuyu is surprisingly low. It really is the ultimate “pick and eat” tree.
Fuyus are not water lovers. They enjoy all types of climates and can tolerate drought. Persimmons like all types of soil as long as its well-drained.
