This little Aussie wonder is a Lomadra confertifolia, a small fine leafed grass that resembles an Echidna.
As the name suggests Echidna Grass is an Australian native and is a tough, low maintenance critter that grows to a rounded clump approximately 30cm x 30cm.
This form of confertifolia is native to Queensland's Sunshine Coast, where weather conditions vary from hot, wet, humid summers to cold frosty winters.
Echidna Grass, once established in ground, is not only drought tolerant but will also handle the humid conditions not normally suited to drought tolerant plants. New foliage has a blue green colour which becomes green as it ages.
Hardy and versatile to most soil types, Echidna Grass performs best in full sun or part shade. Fertilise quarterly as the seasons change with 3-4 month native slow release fertiliser; the occasional prune will also enhance the Echidna Grass shape.
Hardy and versatile to most soil types, Echidna Grass performs best in full sun or part shade. Ideal for rockeries, borders, plantings en masse, or as a pet Echidna in a pot on the front patio.
