Cool Bananas are carefully chosen for their ability to thrive and fruit in cooler climates, such as Tasmania. For optimal growth, plant your bananas in a sunny spot with rich, well-drained soil, and ensure protection from frost and cold winds.
As heavy feeders, bananas benefit from regular care. During the growing season (Spring-Summer), apply garden lime and organic fertiliser every six weeks.
Harvest bananas when the ridges on the fruit smooth out, and the flower has blackened, dried, and crumbled. After harvesting, cut the main stem back to the ground. One of the suckers will replace it. To protect the smaller suckers from the cold, cover them with straw during winter.
