Spikes of small pink flowers appear above slender, wiry stems with narrow purple foliage which form a neat mound. The most striking feature of this wonderful plant is the unusual dark foliage, that emerges a dark purple-green colour and, provided its grown in full-sun, becomes richer and darker as the season progress taking on an almost metallic sheen.
Bees adore this plant as it a flowers continuously from spring right through to autumn, producing a cloud of colour for months on end. Tolerant of most soil types and fairly drought hardy when established. Makes a wonderful feature plant in the border. Grows to 1m H x 70cm W.
Plant in an open (airy) full sun to part shade position in free draining soil. A low water usage plant, it can withstand periods of dry once established and revels in sun and heat. For the best foliage colour a full-sun spot is a must, otherwise the foliage will become a more solid green colour (which isn’t unattractive, but might not be the main draw of this plant). Ideal for seaside gardens. Great container plant.
Old stems and seedheads will create winter garden interest if left un-trimmed. Cut right back in early spring as new shoots emerge.
