Bletilla striata
This hardy, easy-to-grow terrestrial orchid produces delicate mauve-pink flowers in spring and early summer, bringing colour and charm to shaded garden beds, borders, pots and containers.
Ideal for full sun to part shade, Bletilla thrives in rich, well-drained soil in a sheltered position protected from strong winds and heavy frosts. Plant rhizomes from June onwards, laying them flat 5–10cm deep, and water regularly during the growing season for the best display.
