African Violets are a beautiful, compact houseplant that are easy to grow. While their care is a little different than most other houseplants, they're are not hard to please. Get the right  balance of potting mix, light, water, and temperature, and you’ll have a happy plant for many years to come.

A tropical plant they love a warm room with 6-8 hours of bright indirect sunlight each day and will benefit from a little extra humidity. Do not place in direct sunlight as they will burn.

African Violets hate having wet feet and are susceptible to rot root if they sit in water. Water only when the top 2.5cm of soil is dry.

The best way to water an African Violet is to put it in a shallow saucer or dish of tepid water and allow it to soak the water up - never directly water the crown. Let your plant sit and drain for 30 minutes or so to allow excess water to drain away before returning it to its decorative pot. African violets, the leaves burn easily so if you do happen to get the leaves wet, gently pat them completely dry before putting them back in the light, or you risk a burn spot.

Handle with care!! Stems are easily snapped so be gentle when handling your African Violet.

Keeping your plant slightly root-bound encourages it to bloom. Your African Violet will be happiest in a container that is just a little too small for other similarly sized plants. Repot annually to introduce fresh soil and accommodate growth.

When transplanting or repotting be sure to use a loose and well-aerated potting mix.

We recommend using a specific African Violet Food to maintain healthy growth and assist in the production of beautiful flowers and strong leaf growth.
