Clivia miniata – A Shade-Loving Classic
Clivia miniata, also known as Natal lily or Forest Lily, is a long-lived, evergreen favourite that brings vibrant colour to frost-free gardens and indoor spaces alike. With its bold, strappy dark green foliage and striking clusters of bright orange, bell-shaped flowers, it’s ideal for shady borders, beneath trees, or as a feature houseplant.
Flowering from late winter to spring, clivia thrives even in deep shade, making it especially useful for urban gardens or understorey planting.
Growing to around 45cm tall and 30 – 40cm wide, this low-maintenance plant adds year-round architectural interest.
NB: clivia is mildly toxic—its sap can irritate the skin, and ingestion may cause stomach upset.
