The rare and highly sought after Yuzu originated in SE Asia. Resembling a Kaffir Lime in many ways, it produces an abundance of many seeded fruit and heavily scented foliage.
Don't let the oddly shaped fruit fool you - it contains 3 times more vitamin C than a Lemon and tastes like a cross between lemon, mandarin and grapefruit.
Hugely popular for making sauces, preserves, Yuzu vinegar and Sake, it is now becoming popular for creating lemony flavoured gin. It is rarely eaten as a fresh fruit.
The Yuzu is more cold tolerant than most citrus - it is able to tolerate to -5 degrees.
